Knowledge is power. The power to change yourself for the better, in oral health as well as overall health. Knowledge, can help make your healthy smile a reality.
One month after graduating at Hanson High School in Alexandria, SD, I attended the Dental Assisting Program at Lake Area Vocational-Technical Institute (LAVTI) in Huron. After my 11-month program finished, I took and passed the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) and became a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA). I practiced in general dentistry and oral surgery as a CDA in several offices in South Dakota, Colorado and Saudi Arabia. In 1988, I decided to return to school, studying at the University of South Dakota Dental Hygiene Department and earned a AA degree. Thereafter, I passes my board to become a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH), subsequently working in South Dakota and Saudi Arabia. Currently, I am working as an RDH and running Toothology, Inc. in Mitchell, South Dakota.
After working with people and their teeth for many years, I have come to realize that if we in the dental profession are going to stop the most common disease in the world - tooth decay (yes, it is considered a disease) - we must do something different. This is a necessity because this wholly preventable disease is still occurring at an alarming rate.
